The Client
St Catherine’s Church of England, Wigan, built in 1841 in the Gothic style.
The Challenge
The church had an old ring main and decrepit radiators; the church was never warm enough because it took too long for the church to heat up for a service and was costly to run. The PCC wanted to ensure that the new heating system would be better value and ensure that the building, which is over 100 years old, was warm and comfortable, whatever the weather outside.
The Solution
The PCC visited Christ the Servant, Skelmersdale to view Smith’s Caspian heaters installed there and were impressed by the speed the building heated up and the low noise of the Caspians. They requested that all three competing contractors should quote for installing Caspians.
The Products
Nine Caspian 120/12s were installed around the church as well as a new boiler. Caspian fan convectors are simple to install, and use the same pipe work, fitting procedures and heat loss calculations as radiators do, because they are hydronic and are compatible with any wet central heating system or with heat pumps. The controls are simple to use and the fan convectors will come on with the central heating system, or provide an extra boost if required. St Catherine’s C of E is looking forward to a much warmer winter than they’ve ever had before. Caspians, like all Smith’s products, come with a free five-year parts and labour warranty.
