Smith’s Environmental Products Ltd GDPR Statement

With effect from May 25th 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the most significant piece of European privacy legislation in the last twenty years. It replaces the 1995 EU Data Protection Directive (European Directive 95/46/EC), strengthening the rights that EU individuals have over their data, and creating a uniform data protection law across Europe.

Smith’s Environmental Products Ltd will comply with applicable GDPR regulations as a data processor when they take effect on 25th May 2018. Working in conjunction with our clients, we will explore opportunities within our services offerings to assist our customers to meet their GDPR obligations.

From a business perspective our company is the Data Controller and a nominated central contact has been appointed.

Latest status

We are committed to address EU data protection requirements applicable to us as a data processor. These efforts have been critical in our ongoing preparations for the GDPR.

We have replaced our data protection policy with our Privacy Notice advising how data we hold is stored, used and shared within Smith’s Environmental Products Ltd and any third parties, either as part of a contracted service or if we are required to do so by UK law. All feasible security measures are in place and further details are available with in the Privacy Notice.

Smith’s Environmental Products Limited is based at Blackall Industrial Estate, Hamberts Road, South Woodham Ferrers, Chelmsford, Essex CM3 5UW. Although part of the Swan Group, the company processes “personal data” and/or “special category data” as defined in UK data protection legislation. Such data are processed in the provision of contracted services and/or the company’s administration.

All data are held securely – whether on company servers or in a cloud-based system. A data retention schedule is in place. Once no longer required, data are destroyed by secure means. All feasible security measures are in place.

In accordance with current legislation, a cookie audit has been conducted on our website. We utilise Google services in order to monitor our site and provide the best visitor experience as well as web based services. Whilst you are at liberty to disable cookies through your browser, please bear in mind that this may adversely affect usage of the website and/or the web-based services.

We may share data with third parties as part of the contracted services and/or if we are required to do so by UK law. We cannot accept liability for any processing by a third party outside our remit.

None of the above affects your rights under the legislation, in particular your right to access the data we hold on you. If you wish to request a copy of your data, please submit it in writing/email to the company. Please include enough information to enable us to identify you and search for appropriate data.
