Smith’s is delighted to welcome Darren Johnston to the role of Product Design Engineer (Electrical). Based at South Woodham Ferrers in the R&D team he will assume a crucial role in the design and assembly of Smith’s fan convectors, plinth heaters, and fan coil units. He will be responsible for various phases of the electrical design process, spanning from initial conceptualization to prototyping and rigorous testing. Additionally, Darren will take a proactive approach in identifying areas for improvement, conducting thorough research to explore innovative ideas, and investigating opportunities for using cutting-edge technologies, materials, and processes in the R&D team.
He brings a wide range of experience having spent 24 years in the RAF as an electronic and communications engineer on ground-based equipment such as radar and satcomms, followed by 15 years in industry working on electrical systems. Outside of work Darren enjoys woodworking, photography, and NFL American Football.
This appointment will further accelerate Smith’s drive towards developing new products using Smart technologies.
